The Amazing Story of Derek Paravicini
When Derek Paravicini was born on July 26, 1979 in London, England, he made his entrance into the world at only 25 weeks. His parents waited in angst as their baby struggled in the neonatal intensive care unit of the Royal Berkshire Hospital. During the time he spent in the neonatal intensive care unit, the oxygen therapy used to treat him resulted in blindness. It also dramatically affected his brain. When he was older, Derek was diagnosed with a learning disability and autism. Little did his doctors know at the time, however, Derek would grow to become something of a musical prodigy.
